CHANDIGARH: UT police officials finally managed to procure production warrant for the disgraced IPS officer, Saji Mohan in their third attempt on Thursday. A Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act special court in Mumbai granted Saji���s custody to Chandigarh police for interrogating him in a case regarding embezzlement of Rs 13.81 lakh.
Chandigarh police had approached the court for his custody on February 24 and March 9.
The first attempt had failed as UT police did not have an endorsement letter from the chief judicial magistrate, while the second time, court had demanded that UT cops assure that Saji would be brought back to Mumbai for his trial in the drug seizure case. Maharashtra police���s anti-terror squad had arrested the former Chandigarh zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau allegedly while he had 12 kg heroin with him. Chandigarh police had started an investigation about Saji allegedly embezzling Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) funds after that, when the bureau?s malkhana incharge here complained about it. A team of Chandigarh police economic offences wing had been sent to bring him to Chandigarh.
After being transferred from here, Saji was posted as deputy director of enforcement directorate in Kochi. CBI zonal director BL Soni said his men would also be part of the team interrogating Saji.
